Basic Math

How can you find a good deal out there if your math isn't up to speed. Bellow is a simple rundown to help you along the way.

The most common discounts out there are "Buy this and get this percentage (%) off". Now don't go straining yourself to get the price to the penny. You can always round up or down to get an easier figure. For example, if you're dealing with an item that's $95.74, then round that to $95. You can really make it easier and round up to $100. For something at $22.50 you could move that to either $20 or $25.

To take 10% off a $75.00 item, just simply move the decimal point over one for your discount. So you would get a discount of $7.50. Take your original price $75 and minus your discount of $7.50 to get your new price of $67.50. Another example would be lets take the same $75 Item and mark it down 30 %. This is a a little trickier because you are adding one more step. Ten % of a discount is $7.50 so now you need to multiply that by 3 to get your 30% discount.
so 7.50 times three is $22.50. so $75 minus $22.50 is $52.50.

50 % off is quite simple. Take your item and simply divide by 2. So an item that cost say $90 at 50% off would be $45.

25% off is very similar. You can take the same $90 item and divide by 4 to get your discount or you can take half and then in half again to get your discount. So $90 minus a 22.50 discount would be $77.50.

Another common discount you see advertised is "Buy One, Get One free" discounts. Try and remember to take advantage of the second item being close to the purchase price of the first item. If you buy the first item for $50 and the second is free, up to equal or lesser value, try to find an item comparable in price to maximize your discount. If you paid $50 for the first item and grab a second for $10 you wouldn't be taking good advantage of the Buy One Get One Free offer. You would want to buy a $50 item or close to it.

Buy One, Get One 50 % off. Is the same as taking 25 % off your purchase.

Buy Two, Get One Free is the same as taking 33 % off your purchase.

Buy One, Get Two Free is the same as getting 66% off your purchase
